3:42p - Rej Layug, saving kitties around the world!
i saved a kitty last week.

as Kenneth and i walked towards the entrance of the building that housed our client's office, i heard a loud, frantic meowing. "uy, pusa!" Kenneth exclaimed as i looked around.

near the rotunda by which cars could approach the entrance was a downward driveway that led to a basement, closed off by that type of metal gate that rolls down from a receptacle on top. the top must have been twelve feet up, and above that was a smoth marble ledge about a foot high. atop that, perched and shivering in a corner by some plant boxes, was a tiny kitten, covered entirely in pretty black fur.

it couldn't jump down to the driveway, nor up to the nearby plant box, which was also made of marble and was about two feet high. it meowed and wailed, and my heart jumped. but Kenneth and i were late for our meeting, so we hurried up to the twentieth floor of the East Wing.

about an hour later, as we left the building, i heard the kitten again. i saw it was still on the ledge, and surmised that it was probably scared and starving. i had to do something.

we approached the entrance to the basement parking and i spoke to the guard. "you can't save them all," Kenneth said, in an attempt to dissuade me from my mission. i told him to go ahead to the office. happily, the guard wasn't antaginistic. he very nicely accompanied me to the plant box. so i could show him why the kitten needed help. he was so nice, not at all mean or condescending, even if i was taking him away from his job for a while.

Mr. Very Nice Guard told me to look for one of the maintenance personnel to get the ktty off the ledge. i made my way back to the building and i spoke to the first maintenance person i saw. he looked a little cranky, but nevertheless he came along with me and got up by the plant boxes. just as he approached the ledge, the kitten backed away in fear. the poor thing probably wasn't used to humans. he managed to get a hold of it, but it squirmed so much that it fell from his grasp. fortunately it fell into the plant box and not down to the driveway, which would have been a twelve-foot drop!

i tried to get the kitten to come with me, bu it kept hiding among the dense shrubs. the maintenance guy even tried to help me retrieve it, but i guess it was too scared. a least i fulfilled my mission's primary objective: get the kitten off the ledge. yay me!
